Different forms of massage can be used according to the desired effect and nature of the injury being treated. This may vary from muscle relaxing massage for general stimulation of blood flow and to encourage lymphatic flow. This could be used for back and neck pain or a muscle injury.
Frictional massage is the application of firm transverse pressure across a ligament, tendon or muscle to break up scar tissue formation such as in Achilles tendonitis or Tennis elbow. Sports massage is a more vigorous deep muscle massage for post injury recovery. |
